Established in 1985, Second Harvest is a charity that rescues fresh, surplus food and delivers it daily, nourishing people in need and preventing waste, across Toronto. All the food, that would otherwise go to waste, is donated by grocery stores, manufacturers, distributors, farmers, restaurants and hotels. The food is delivered daily to our network of more than 200 social service agencies feeding people experiencing hunger across Toronto – children, adults and seniors who access meal programs, food banks, shelters and community services. Since inception, Second Harvest has rescued and delivered almost 100 million pounds of food, while preventing almost 50 million pounds of greenhouse gasses from entering the atmosphere.
The Toronto Vegetarian Food Bank (TVFB) is a volunteer-run not-for-profit organization. Their mission is to provide healthy, environmentally-responsible and cruelty-free food to vegetarians in need. They are committed to providing all vegan-friendly food (50% of which will be fresh whole foods) to those in need who are vegetarian, vegan, or actively transitioning to a veg diet.
